A Keurig For a Penny!

by Telling Dad on March 13, 2010

penny1I absolutely hate it when children suffer, and stories from those affected by childhood cancer just break my heart. So innocent, so eager to flash a smile, and so brave…even when faced with painful treatments and scary machines.

An online friend, acquaintance, or adoring fan of mine, Rhea from Mommy23Monkeys.com, has a cousin who’s baby daughter was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma.

She is such a precious little girl and my wife and I felt compelled to help. You can read more about Penny here.

As one would expect, they’ve had an extremely difficult time, and after multiple surgeries, numerous tests and scans, blood transfusions, chemotherapy and other treatments, they just received word that Penny now has RSV.

They are about to enter their third week in the hospital and the personal, emotional, and financial toll this takes has to be staggering. It’s more than any parent and any child should have to endure.

When we got word of a fundraiser auction for Penny that will be held on Friday, March 19th (starting at 6am PST), we just knew we had to donate something.

The only problem is that I don’t really have anything of value around here. I thought about an autographed Telling Dad photo, but seriously, who can afford one of those in today’s economy?

Since the auction will undoubtedly be piped throughout the blogosphere, I tried to think of something that bloggers and readers alike have raved about. I wanted it to be something people would clamor over. Ultimately, I decided to donate a brand new Keurig B60 Gourmet Coffee Maker.

I don’t know anything about it, and I’m too lazy to paraphrase, but I’m guessing it makes some really good coffee. You can read more about it here over at Amazon.

Now I don’t drink coffee myself but I’m told it’s like a really kickin’ machine by those who aren’t latte challenged like me. I constantly see Keurig contests with a bazillion entries, I constantly read about bloggers who try and fail to get Keurig to hook them up with a machine for giveaways, and I’ve read countless reviews on how awesome this thing is.

So why not, right!? If it’s something lots of people want then maybe we can drum up some awareness for Penny and her situation. We purchased the Keurig B60 tonight and we’ll ship it to the winner (autographed box upon request…FREE).

Karma, caffeine, and coffee beans. What could be better?

I urge you to bid on this glorious Keurig Coffee Maker! You’ll not only help a family who is going through a tortuous time in their lives, but you’ll also be on the fast track to a gourmet caffeine high.

While the auction starts on Friday March 19th at 6am PST, you don’t have to be up that early! It’s not that kind of auction.

You can bid on this and other great items through the weekend. Bidding closes at 9pm PST on Sunday, March 21st.

Mark your calendars, spread the word, and let’s touch some lives!
